The town initially began as an important center of agriculture – particularly citrus fruit – and remained that way for some time.
When they did so, they changed the name to Corona. In July of 1896, however, the citizens voted to incorporate the town into the newly developed Riverside County. Initially, in the mid to late 1800s, the area that is now Corona was a small, rural community known as South Riverside.
